Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Dream Doctor is an iPhone app made by Mindworks Inc ("Mindworks", "we", "us"), created with sleep specialist Dr. Michael Breus. This policy explains what information the Dream Doctor app and this website collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Dream Doctor is a self-help tool. It is not a medical service, and it does not diagnose or treat any condition.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account information: the first name or nickname you choose, your email address and password, or the details shared by Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google (usually your name and email address).
• Your preferences: what brings you to the app, nightmare patterns and triggers you choose to share, your usual bedtime and wake time, time zone, reminder settings, appearance and voice choices.
• Your dreams: the dreams you capture or describe, your answers to the guide's questions, the endings you choose or write, and the Dream Journeys created from them (text and narrated audio).
• Practice and check-ins: the nights you practice, and your morning check-ins, such as whether you remembered a dream, how often a nightmare came back, how upsetting it felt, how you slept, and any notes you add. This is wellness information, and we treat it as sensitive.
• Coach messages: the questions you send to the AI coach and its answers.
• Support contact: if you save a trusted person in the app's Support screen, their name, role and phone number are stored only on your iPhone. They are not uploaded to our servers.
• Messages to us: anything you send to our support email.

Information collected automatically

• Device and app information: app version, device type, iOS version, and a notification token if you allow notifications.
• Crash and performance diagnostics: technical reports when the app crashes or slows down. They do not include your dreams.
• Usage analytics, only if you opt in: which screens and features are used, so we can improve the app. Analytics are off unless you turn them on in the app, and they never include your dreams, answers, endings, check-in notes or messages.

What we don't collect

• We don't collect your precise location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we don't use tracking tools for advertising.
• When you describe a dream by voice, your iPhone turns speech into text on the device using Apple's speech recognition. We store the text, not a recording of your voice. (Voice conversations and your own voice are covered in section 7.)

This website

This website does not use cookies or analytics. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, for security and reliability.

3. How we use it

• To provide Dream Doctor: create your account, save your dreams, write your guide questions and endings, narrate your Dream Journeys, count your practice nights and show your progress.
• To send the reminders and notifications you turn on.
• To keep you safe: to notice when something you write or say suggests you may be in danger, and show you crisis resources (see section 8).
• To answer your support requests.
• To fix problems and, if you opt in to analytics, to understand how the app is used and improve it.
• To protect the app and our users, and to meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use your dreams or check-ins for advertising of any kind.

4. AI processing and your consent

Dream Doctor uses AI services to work. Before any of your content is sent to them, the app explains this and asks for your permission. If you don't agree, those features can't run.

• AI text service: receives the dream text and answers needed to write your guide questions, your ending options, the script of your Dream Journey and the AI coach's replies, and to review text for safety concerns.
• AI voice service: receives the script of your Dream Journey and other guided audio to narrate it, and powers the "Talk to Dr. Breus" voice conversation.

We send only what each feature needs, and we don't send your email address with your dream content. These providers process the content on our behalf, under contracts that limit how they may use it.

AI-generated content can be imperfect. "Talk to Dr. Breus" is an AI voice created from Dr. Breus's voice and guidance, with his permission. It is not Dr. Breus speaking live, and it is not medical advice.

5. Service providers

We use these service providers to run Dream Doctor. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.

6. When we share information

We share personal information only:

• with the service providers above, to run the app;
• when you ask us to, or with your consent;
• if required by law, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or Mindworks;
• as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to protect your information and we will tell you before it becomes subject to a different policy.

Our development partner, FutureProofing, builds and maintains Dream Doctor for Mindworks and may access systems to do that work, under confidentiality obligations.

7. Voice features

Talk to Dr. Breus

When you start a voice conversation, your voice is streamed to our AI voice service to understand you and reply in real time. We don't keep a recording or a transcript of the conversation. To check for safety concerns, the words you said may be reviewed by our safety system right after the call, without being stored.

Your own voice (optional)

Some versions of the app let you narrate your Dream Journeys in your own voice. If you choose this:

• you first give explicit consent in the app, and you read 3 given sentences aloud;
• the recordings are used to create a copy of your voice with our AI voice service, used only to narrate your own Dream Journeys in your account;
• we never use your voice for anything else, and we never sell or share it except with the voice service that creates and uses it for you;
• you can delete it anytime in Me, My voice. We then delete your recordings and the copy of your voice, and your Dream Journeys switch to one of our voices. Deleting your account deletes them too.

Some laws treat a voice model as biometric information. We handle it with the protections above and delete it as described in this section.

8. Safety features

Dream Doctor checks what you write and say for signs that you may be in danger right now. Dark or frightening dream content is expected and does not count as a sign. If a sign is found, the app pauses and shows crisis lines you can call or text in 1 tap.

When that happens, we record that a pause occurred and which option you chose, such as calling a crisis line. We don't store the words that caused the pause in that record. We do not contact anyone on your behalf.

9. How long we keep it

• We keep your account information and content while your account is active, so your dreams and nights are there when you come back.
• You can delete individual dreams in the app at any time.
• When you delete your account, we delete your account, dreams, Dream Journeys, check-ins, messages and voice data from our systems, and we ask our voice provider to delete any voice created for you. Copies in encrypted backups are removed as those backups expire.
• We may keep limited information longer if the law requires it, or to resolve disputes and enforce our terms.

10. Your choices and rights

• Download your data: in the app, go to Me, then Privacy, then Download my data.
• Delete your account: in the app, go to Me, then Account, then Delete account. This also removes your data as described in section 9.
• Correct your information: edit your profile and settings in Me, or contact us.
• Analytics: analytics are off by default. You can turn them on or off anytime in Me, then Privacy.
• Notifications and microphone: you can change these anytime in your iPhone's Settings.

Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with privacy laws, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to limit how sensitive information is used. We use sensitive information only to provide the app you asked for. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it, so there is nothing to opt out of. You can exercise these rights in the app or by emailing support@thedreamdoctor.com. We may need to verify your identity first, and we won't treat you differently for using your rights. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.

11. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls that keep each person's data separate, and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects it.

12. Age requirement

Dream Doctor is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Where data is processed

Dream Doctor is offered in the United States. Your information is stored and processed in the United States by us and our service providers.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
